Manus x Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology
On September 6th, the Manus x Machina exhibit at The Met closed and for anyone who missed it, I wanted to share some photos because it completely blew me away. My mom and I happened to be in the city the weekend after The Met Gala opening. We popped by to see some of our favorites, but also got to spend a lot of time staring at some of the most beautiful garments I've ever seen (the craftsmanship 🙌🏼).
The space was split into categories (more info on each here):
- Broderie (Embroidery)
- Plumasserie (Featherwork)
- Parurier Floral (Artificial Flowers)
- Toiles
- Tailleur and Flou (Tailoring and Dressmaking)
- Plisse I (Pleating)
- Dentellerie (Lacework)
- Maroquinerie (Leatherwork).
I wish I had taken more photos of the actual space and how the exhibit was arranged. It was exquisite! Some styles and designers were grouped together as collections, while others were featured as hero solo statements.They did such a beautiful job of layering live video feeds of close up details on the walls behind these garments. For me, the most striking and thought provoking were the 3D printed pieces. That blending of technology with fashion makes it possible to picture even Marie Antoinette wearing a 3D printed outfit!

ON THE WAY OUT, STOPPED TO VISIT AN OLD FAVE...
Just stunning. I hope these pictures do any sort of justice to the gorgeous-ness that my mom and I experienced seeing it in person! Can't wait to see what The Met has in store for us next.
